Overview
Thermal storage systems have become more popular in recent years due to there ability to supply mains pressure hot water affordably and with greater efficiency. Thermal store systems are not pressurised; therefore this eliminates the need for annual servicing and inspection. One main benefit is that they supply hot water on demand. The water supplied is taken directly from the mains supply; therefore it can also be used as drinking water if required which complies with the new local authorities bylaws.
How do they work?
Thermal storage systems would normally incorporate a heating element that runs off overnight cheap rate electricity. The element heats a stored tank of water to a pre-set temperature. The hot water is then used to heat the incoming mains water via the heat exchanger. As with all boiler components they are prone to wear due to age and use. Most storage systems will incorporate flow switches, pumps, heating elements along with other parts that in time will need to be replaced.
